Couple of questions. Does the ac system function correctly ?(may be difficult to assess in current ambient temps) . Is the noise from the engine bay or behind the dashboard.? The compressor is driven by the poly vee drive belt ,so rotates at engine speed. Its cooling output is controlled via an electronic valve ,dependant on demand and load. When the system was recharged, was any extra lubricating oil added (should do). Trying to assess noises can be very difficult ,especially when not hands on.

Looks as though your garage is trying to fleece you! And A/C doesn't need 'servicing', apart from using it occasionally in the winter to keep it in good condition. If it's working, don't mend it. Probably just a dirty drive belt. Use a flower sprayer, or one of those spray cleaner bottles with water and a single drop of washing up liquid and spray the belt while it's idling. Listen to what difference, if any, it makes to the noise. If it gets less, it's just the belt. If it doesn't, it might be a bearing failing - unlikely in such a young car.

No - unable determine any noice idling/upping revs. also, switching off a-c during driving makes no difference. Will check when ambient temp high enough to warrant proper a-c working. But, frankly, now suspect it may not be a-c compressor at all! Thanks for help ...
