I can't do links but it seems JLR are in trouble....recalling 40 thousand odd cars due to emission issues, investors are pursuing them for damages.

If you read the BBC article carefully it actually says that the VW Group are being pursued by investors for damages.

Emissions have come under more scrutiny since Volkswagen's diesel scandal.

Investors are pursuing the car giant for about about €9.2bn (£8.2bn) in damages, claiming the company should have come clean sooner about falsifying emissions data.

investors are pursuing them for damages.

I very much doubt that, seeing as they are owned by Tata.

Looks like its the Ingenium petrol that's the main issue.

One bit jumped off the page...".The repairs could include software updates as well as physical alterations, and some Range Rover Evoque models will need new tyres, a JLR spokesperson said."

New tyres....wait...what?

On wonders if these wrong CO2 measurements could mean the cars have fallen into lower VED or other taxation bands than they should have.

Be interesting to see if the revised vehicles suffer performance or driveability issues after the fix.

Tyres/wheels presumably to be swapped for less rolling resistance? does the new emission testing system utilise a rolling road?

Perfectly possible - the Hyundai Ioniq/Kia Niro did this - the top spec car with 17in rims was over the limit for the low VED band and the lower spec ones on 16/15in rims were under.

Recalls happen to lots of models. More worrying for JLR is the report in this week's Autocar that a lot of Chinese owners are complaining about the unreliability of their Jaguars and Land Rovers.

A friend was telling me that at his golf club there are a group of golfers who can regularly be seen at the bar discussing the latest thing that has gone wrong with one of their RRs or Discoveries. He feels rather smug that his elderly Hionda CR-V has never let him down.

JLR just don't seem to be getting the message, and continue to find all manner of other reasons for falling sales..

LR have made the same basic error as some other makers, Honda for one, ignored and neglected those small c conservative bread and butter repeat customers who put them where they are (and provided a constant supply of used examples to attract the next generation of new buyers), leaving them without a decent reliable working product to buy even if they wanted to, chasing instead image and fashionistas.

The problems in China relate more to the local production line they have there.

SO UK produced LRs are reliable?

Excuse me whilst I pull myself off the floor..

Where did I say that?

Too much style and not enough (engineering) substance methinks.

It is 15 years since I last worked for jlr and there is no product I would currently buy!

Another shambles by a manufacturer. It would be nice(honest even) if the JLR PR dept stated exactly what is wrong with their engines. Software ECU programme? PETROL? or mechanical DIESEL EGRs DPFs or what. They say the recall is voluntary but is this on their behalf or do the owners risk having their cars reprogrammed like VW.

Remember MAGIC JOHN's recall with BMW a few weeks ago, I wonder if he has got his car back yet. Anyone buying a JLR vehicle could be heading for trouble!
