Some people on here think that just because of low mileage diesels will self destruct and cause the owner eye wateringly big Bill's. Granted some will cause DPF and other issues but a lot of the problems have been ironed out now. We've had our 1.6 dci qashqai for just under a year and it does a mixture of driving but normal weekday stuff is to and from school shops ect no problems so far. According to some on here that should of broken down hundreds of times by now because its Renault underneath.
Firstly, that is a huge exaggeration!, nobody on here would expect your car to have broken down at under a year old, at least not for anything serious (and given your car is under a year old, it is perhaps a little premature to be bragging about its reliablity!).
Secondly, it isn't just a case of people thinking low mileage diesels will 'self destruct' (again, a somewhat exaggerated term), because there is plenty of evidence to suggest that this sort of use WILL cause dpf problems. This may not require a new engine, but it will be very expensive to put right.
It may be an exaggeration and very right it is but on this site and others if some one wishes to own a diesel they are told how it will all end with big Bill's. Many of the dpf issues seem to have been resolved now. Some manufacturers are having more problems than others but most have sussed it out, all new technology has issues and as it matures the bugs are worked out.
My lorry does short city hops all day and doesn't suffer from any dpf issues even if u switch off mid regen like I said they seem to have got on top of the issues with dpf. And it has an automated manual gearbox it's ok but nothing special a proper torque converter auto like our other vehicles would be better but this has much improved mpg.
