Vauxhall Zafira - Torx bolts turning and turning - Aocal
Hi,
Perhaps I’m being really thick and also struggling after an over indulgent Saturday night but...trying to remove a Zafira A radiator fan, first torx bolt straight out, second one just turning and turning.
Left that one and moved on to the radiator itself,, two more torx bolts on the bumper side of the radiator. Same thing, turning and turning. Can’t even tighten them back up.

Any ideas how to get them out?

Thanks in advance.

To clarify, the torx bolts on the bumper side are the bolts connecting the radiator to the condenser.

You will be very lucky to get these bolts out cleanly on a car of this age. The retaining clips will be corroded onto the bolts, so they will just spin in the plastic ears of the radiator. You will need to cut them off with a small angle grinder or die grinder. It may be easier to remove the complete radiator pack for access.

Ahhh, that’s what it is then. thanks!
Yes it’s a 2005 Zafira so quite old but low mileage so hard to decide whether to scrap it or keep spending time and money on it.
Thanks for the reply.

The A models are generally very durable,so may be worth it to keep running. The front fan is not really needed if it has a working engine side fan.

Similar irritation with front engine mounting crossmember bolts yesterday, on Skywing/Charade

The bolts are semi-captive (they have a bit of play on them which aids lining things up.)

I dunno how the other ends are retained since they are inside the chassis front box-section but one of them was just going round. I found cleaning the nuts and bolts very thoroughly and putting tension (weight in this case) on the nut would get some turns but it took a long time and was a pain in the neck (literally and figuratively)

Perhaps tension would help in your case.

Ran out of time and had to accept defeat with the stuck bolts.
£300 later got the car back with a new MOT.

The 14yr old Zafira lives for another year!

Thanks for all the info and replies, thought I was going crazy until you guys confirmed what was happening.

I thouight of spraying something sticky inside the box section, Maybe spray foam would be stiff enough to have held them.

Or even vegetable oil, (which I spray and paint around a lot anyway) though it takes a while to set.
