Mazda 6 Sport 2010 - Clutch Switch - Mark Colledge

Is it possible to replace the clutch switch with a toggle switch.

Does the switch have any other function other than at startup.

My mazda 6 2010 has an issue with the clutch switch, ive had it checked over by 2 people and nothing was found but the switch was replaced anyway (twice) .

If i sit in traffic and have to use the clutch to start stop etc red warnings lights come up on the dash, error code P0830 is sent to the ECU.

When i turn off the engine the car will shut down and can only be started once the code is cleared by an obd scanner.

I am thinking if i can put in a toggle switch just for starting up etc then the issue that is occuring when in traffic etc will be resolved. Is this a reasonable assumption etc.

Why not just repair the fault instead of looking for ways around it.

Because the car has been into a mazda garage and a local garage and neither can find the fault.

Both garages have recreated the issue and seen it first hand but neither can offer any idea as to why.

So my thinking is remove the cause of the issue. But im not 100% sure if the car needs the switch during normal driving or just on startup. I believe it to be the later.

The clutch switch is used for more than starting the car. It sends a signal to the engine ecu to tell it when you are changing gear or coasting with the clutch down. Can't see how a fault here can prevent the car starting unless reset on diagnostics .?

Many thanks for the info.

Its a strange one and no one seems to know why etc.

I know when its going to happen as the start button goes red and a red key displays on the dash. When the car is turned off it completely shuts down, Cant even turn the igintion on so my OBD reader doesnt work. The car does nothing. Have to get an auto locksmith to wake the car up and remove the code which is always the same P0830

Forget main dealers or backstreet garages and seek out a genuine auto electrician who’ll properly diagnose rather than guess and randomly replace parts. It’s unusual for a Mazda to cause much grief here but that’s just luck for you.
