Hello,

My granny is giving up driving and my sister wants an automatic as a first car. This fits the bill for her perfectly, however, being a rover cvt we all have our doubts about the car.

My grandmother has owned it since new and has done 38,000 miles, in it. It has the k-series 1.8 engine which had the uprated headgasket fitted about three years ago.

It has been lying in her garage for the last couple of months and now my sister would like an auto.

Is it worth the bother? I cant seem to find any info out about how good or bad these boxes are, my grandmother has never had any problems, but the local garage has looked after it since new.

Any advice much appreciated, it would only be a run around until something newer was found, however any info on the cvt, would be great thanks

What is there to doubt? The K series engine is very strong (Hg been done). The Zf gearbox can be a bit ratty at times but so what . How much is the car? It is pretty much worthless, so just drive it until it dies .( which it probably won't )

Thats what i was thinking, theres not point in selling it, so might as well use it.

I was just wondering if the cvt boxes gave much trouble, but if it does, it will just be binned anyway, thanks for your help.

I will get it jump started and give it to her tomorrow, cheers,

Worth buttons and HGF aside they’re pretty reliable if a bit dated. Actually quite lively to drive though. I’d snap it up if it’s cheap enough. Keep it nice and it’ll only go up in value or at least be depreciation free.
