Mitsubishi Shogun - did or di dc engine - Shaunandelly

Can anybody explain the relative merits of the di-dc engine to the the DID engine please? One is 187bhp as opposed to 197 as I understand.

As far as I can see the 197PS version is basically an updated version of the same engine but with lower emissions. All versions of the later unit fall below the top rate 225g/km tax rate meaning it’s £200 a year less to tax and will drop in value much more slowly. Plus I believe the timing chain tensioner issues the older motor suffered from were sorted. It’s worth paying extra for.

Thanks. Another issue is mpg. Everywhere you go online you have owners claiming to get 30 + mpg. But any trip computer I've seen on one says 22 mpg.

I'm expecting lower mpg but to be viable for me at least it would at least show the possibility of getting near 30mpg.

No full size 4x4 gets great economy, weighing over tons shaped like a brick and dragging a heavy transmission around with fat multi purpose tyres isn't going to mean good economy.

On a par with similar vintage 3.0 litre Landcruisers (Mitsi better value used), which vary around 25 mpg for general use (worse if you hammer them) and just about scraping 30mpg on a run, again if you don't thrash it, the newer the model the more chance it being better on fuel, but the more chance of it having a DPF which can soon negate any fuel savings if it gives grief.

Manual box helps usually by about 2 mpg on these vehicles, but these types of vehicle are so nice to drive that i'd forgo that 2mpg for the pleasure of the easy lazy comfort where road surface/quality simply isn't an issue.
