Re the TT. Having just had a wheel bearing changed I would have that checked first.

My vehicle was OK until about 50, then the drone started. I also suspected tyres, but you could hear the bearing grinding when the hub was spun.

Had several cars/MPVs that came with Pirelli tyres; they all droned.

I always replaced them with Goodyear, until Goodyear prices got stupid, and now use Nexen N6000; not the best, but pretty good for the money.

Hi,i had pirellis on my car, noisy,so i changed them over to COOPERS,fantastic tyres, less noise, better handling and reasonable price.

Re : Batteried Wife : "he told me something I had never heard before: that when starting the BMW it took the equivalent power of 10 miles of driving."

I'd quibble the mileage, but I thought that was common knowledge, the starter motor (especially when cold pumping cold and thick oil) takes a lot of power.
On the same matter, I am skeptical of the radio draining a well charged car battery, it's only a radio, a domestic radio will run for ages on C cells or even a PP3.

Re BMW battery

"I have taken it back to Halfords where the mechanic checked the battery and said there was nothing wrong with it "

Get it checked by a battery specialist; Halfords don't have the required equipment.
