Yaris or Jazz - Toyota Yaris Heavy Clutch Pedal - stardust

We have owned a 2008 Yaris 1.3TR for last four years which is fine and we love the firm seats but dont like the very heavy clutch pedal. Does the later Yaris retain the same seating and heavy clutch pedal? Or should we try the Jazz 1.4, does that have a light clutch pedal and what are the seats like?

I'm no mechanic, but i suspect there is a problem with the clutch as it shouldn't be too heavy. My dad used to have a 1.0 Yaris, i think it was a 2007, and it was absolutely fine. The Yaris is a car which appeals to folk who want something reliable and easy to drive so i very much doubt a heavy clutch would be the norm.

The Jazz is aimed at a very similar type of buyer, so i would expect very similar clutch and gearchange characteristics. As for the seats, that is a very personal thing, so while i like the seats in our current shape Jazz (CVT auto), you might not, you'd have to try it.

I googled 'heavy clutch' and it seems the Yaris for this age seems to suffer from this but no reason given.

Can only say that my wife is now on her third consecutive Yaris...currently a 1.33 TR..and having driven them all I can say none have had a heavy clutch..

The Jazz is an equally fine, reliable car however...we simply prefer our Toyotas.

The Yaris and Jazz both have very light clutches and gearchange. Either there’s a fault here or you may need to look at an auto if there’s a health reason for it feeling heavy to you.

Is there any creaking or other noise associated with depressing the clutch pedal? My old mid 90s Micra had this issue, including a heavier clutch, and it was diagnosed as a worn (frayed) clutch cable and replaced relatively cheaply. No problems after.

As others have said, it's worth you looking at a) testing out other similar cars to see if the issue is you personally finding clutches hard work, possibly indicating a health issue, and b) having the car then checked to see if there's an issue - it could be something relatively minor and easy/cheap to fix like mine was.

Best of luck getting to the bottom of this issue.

My word - that's a lot of 'issues' - 5 in all .... :-) Sounds like a 'problem' to me, something that needs fixing. Issues are things that are just talked about. Correct on a discussion forum I guess :-))

Youngest son has a 2012 1.3Yaris TR - nice light clutch..when bought with 25k miles and still light at 70k miles..

No doubt there is something wrong with the OP's car.. which frankly can only be solved by a garage unless we have psychic mechanics here... (we have lots of pedants though....)

Will need a new clutch, it's actually the cover that causes the clutch pedal to be heavy, but obviously it would be foolish not to replace the plate and bearing at the same time.

Isn’t this what test drives are for? A heavy or otherwise clutch can be largely subjective, so the answer is to test drive the cars you are interested in. If you are worried about being talked into a sale, just remember it’s your money so you have control!
