Today's Times reports that the Waze app (whatever that does) now has a function called 'GTI Superdrives' which can warn drivers when they are approaching one of a list of 75 specially selected routes - presumably to tempt them to add to the traffic there. Do we need that?

Apparently the research was done by VW, to include 'scenery and points of interest'. Top of the list is the Cheddar Gorge, followed by two Scottish roads, the A939/940 and the A701. The list also includes the Brecon Beacons, Glencoe and even the Hardknott Pass. Anyone familiar with that one must hope that this app does not add to the traffic there.

Bah, humbug.

the Waze app (whatever that does)

Its a nav app that works on Android (its now owned by Google) but there is constant talk about it migrating to Apple as well.

And its very good.

Its totally free.

The maps are constantly updated.

The speed limits and camera locations are constantly updated.

The traffic info on the app is remarkably accurate and up to date. You often gets warnings about broken down cars on the hardshoulder and as if by magic someone has parked a few hundred yards ahead.

It also works with Android Auto so in cars that have that feature its easy to display it on the dash display.

A brilliant app but it can need disconnecting and reconecting sometimes when it looses 4G. Easy with a passenger, not if you are on your own.

The idea behind it is to suggest more interesting driving routes to people who may be interested in such routes, but don't know where they are.

Great real time traffic app. I really dont see drivers flocking in their droves to listed sites.

Waze can't be used on a PC to pre-plan a route, unlike Google maps

Actually you can use it on your phone to set up a planned drive. You tell it when you need to be there and it will tell you when you need to be leaving. Simple idea but great. It even beeps you when the time to go is near. And I concur its eta function is very accurate. I use It a lot and thoroughly recommend it to the panel.

Agreed - you can pre-plan a route on your phone but not on your PC
