The car was first registered March 2014 I bought the car December 2014 with a free 4+ servicing, the first service was undertaken October 2015 then subsequent years Oct 2016 Oct 2017. This year Oct 2018 would be the last service. Renault have decided that the free servicing should start from first registered march 2014 which is 9 months after I bought the vehicle. Renaults 4+ free service plan states during your first 4 years of ownership hence 4 years service from Dec 2014 to Oct 2018. They refuse to acknowledge that I bought the car in Dec 2014 and say the service starts from first registered March 2014. How can they issue a free service package 9 months before I bought the car? Are they right?

Easy, like the warranty any service plan will start from the date of first registration unless its an aftermarket product you buy later. But you did not buy the plan, it was free, thus would start when the car was registered.

The fact that your car was not serviced until it was 19 months old would probably mean that the warranty was null and void if you had required work doing.

Another example, the wifes car is a year old next May. We have 12 months to buy the manufacturers 2 year service plan, we will get it sorted in April. The car will gets a service the following month and the 2nd 12 months later. Essentially the start date of the plan will be 11 months before we buy it but its clear enough in the T & C's.

We are buying it late for one simple reason, the money is better in our bank than the manufacturers.

One of the downsides of buying a pre-registered rather than new vehicle. The warranty expires on the anniversary of the first registration date, also.

Well low and behold they have caved in and I am getting my service. I went through the ombudsman service and their investigation found the paperwork to be flawed and ambiguous. Therefore a full service is forthcoming guaranteed from the garage. My message is to not take things for granted, so every service plan does not start from first registration

If I remember correctly, 4+ was a product tied to new cars - 4 years servicing, 4 years warranty, 4 years PCP and 4 years breakdown cover. So, logically, it would start from date of registration.

Renault 4+ package is standard on every purchase new or used. Renaults own website states: (4 year free servicing during your first four years of ownership). So logically the 4+ should start from Dec 2014 and yes it includes all of the above

Yes, it is applicable to used cars. The important point is that as the purchaser of a pre-registered car, you’d receive the balance of the four years remaining. If I were to buy your car in ten years time from a Renault dealer, would I expect to receive 4 years warranty, finance, breakdown cover and servicing?

Your quote is from Renault UK’s new car website. Your car wasn’t first registered to you, so it wasn’t a new car. The T&C’s you need to look at would be from RUK’s used car website.

What no reply from MCB100, I thought with your knowledge there would have been a comment.

Not the case, no such thing as receiving the balance of years remaining. if I bought a 2-3-year-old car and was offered a 4+ free service. 4 years service is what I would get with the finance, breakdown cover, and warranty. If you read my previous answer you will see that I have received the service under the 4+ agreement. Not everything is black and white!!!!
