My last experience of Avons was the ZZ3, which were noisy and gave a harsh ride, but the grip in all weathers was superb (grip echoed by my son who had them on a very fast Scooby), despite this grip i had them replaced at 4mm due to the noise downsides, obviously that has no bearing on this new model, but if Avon rate a tyre A for grip i'd be inclined to trust that appraisal, where i'm not too sure that trust applies to all makes (who rate their own), wet grip is my first priority everything else comes after, if they prove rubbish in the wet i don't care if they still have 7mm tread left they're coming off.
Its quite interesting where tyres are now made, the Falkens recently bought at bargain price for daughter's Civic are made in Japan and are proving very worthy, i've had ridiculously cheap but always good Uniroyals made in Germany, and again very good Vredesteins all of which have been Netherlands made.
I had a once only foray (really to test my previous opinions) into Taiwanese made rubber, and there were new Chinese tyres fitted to my Landcruiser when it was bought, i would be reluctant to have tyres made in such places again, assuming one knows the origin before they turn up, so i tend to avoid makes most likely to be from such places.
