Trading on a public highway? - FoxyJukebox

Just recently I have noticed several vehicles In our neighbouring residential area that are clearly for sale ( trade plates evident etc).

Is a trader formally allowed to use the public highway for this purpose?

I'd be tempted to check the insurance of the vehciles concerned as well, if it is a legimate trader, they will have a specific motor trader policy for a set number of vehicles and value

The offences Nolan was charged with are part of the Clean Neighbourhoods & Environment Act 2005, Part 2 Section 3. This legislation does not affect private individuals who legitimately advertise their cars for sale on the roadside.

Shouldn’t be and if they’re on the public highway they must be taxed and insured. Trade plates are only permitted for transportation and demonstration, you can’t just park a car permanently on the road with a set displayed nor can you use a car as your own transport with them.

Search on line for one of the vehicles that are parked up- especially if iit is interesting. I did that on behalf of a concerned relative. Adverts on Autotrader popped up, with several cars and motorhomes photographed on the street. The council said they were aware when I contacted them and the situation resolved, with the numbers reduced to on driveway parking only and a house move later on.
