Citroen C4 - Washing Fitted Front Seat Covers - Millie50

Just bought this lovely car...but it whiffs a bit of previous owners dog. I see that the front seats have removeable covers...has anyone ever done this, washed them and got them back on again ok? Failing that, any tips for getting rid of doggy smell...currently using Febreeze which seems to do the trick.

thanks in advance

Fabreze should do the trick. Like you, I'm slightly suspect at being able to refit them properly after washing.

I once bought a car that had been heavily smoked in. It didn't smell when we first had it, but soon stank of stale tobacco. Tried various methods and found that lots of bicarbonate of soda, sprinkled then left overnight before hoovering worked well.

My wife was showing me some handy tips that she had seen online the other day. One was regarding odours, and although it was aimed at smelly shoes, it may well work on your smelly seat covers. Cat litter!, yes, really, apparently something in it which absorbs odours. The advice for shoes was to put some in your shoe in the evening and empty it out in the morning. Worth a try surely, especially if you are a cat owner?

A good wet wash of the seats carpets and door linings using a wet and dry vacuum should do the trick, i don't think i'd be dismantling OE seats.

edited rest of post, thought it was a smoker problem too.

Buy an A/C cleaner and use that. It helps to clean the system.

Yes you will have to clean all the surfaces in the car to get rig of the doggy smell. Carpets, trim roof lining etc.
