The previous "genuine" BMW battery lasted ten years. Makes me wonder what is differnt from other batteries apart from the price?!
For the past few years my choice of aftermarket battery has been Yuasa, their best of which carry a 5 year warranty and will usually go on for as long as any OE, but they take a bit of finding, the usual aftermarket makes we get here don't seem to last anywhere near as well as they once did.
Good OE batteries wasn't always the case, in the bad old days of 12 month warranties on new vehicles, where i worked in the 70's we ran Diesel Transits, you could almost bet the shirt off your back that at 13 months the OE batteries would peg out, i honestly believe the arrival of large numbers of Japanese cars made the other makers sit up and take notice and sort such things out, because whilst they may have been no better for rust resistance, Japanese reliability durability and electronics were streets ahead in comparison.
