The new electric car from Russia is a bit of a looker:

Seriously though, what were they smoking?

I like how it's described as retro-styled, but the shape (particularly the front) reminds me of old Ladas. Not exactly a good template stlying-wise.

What can one say.?...other than...oh dear, oh dear.

I doubt Tesla will be overly concerned.

I have a feeling this is no more than a publicity stunt. Apparently they have branched out into fashion, and these supposed products - an electric car and a robot - may be designed to raise the brand image and associate it with a retro look.

I quite like it. It does look quite boxy. I suspect it's quite a strong shape. A 2 box design is simple, this could mean its stronger for the same weight. For an electric car with heavy batteries this could be a big bonus. It will clearly not be that aerodynamic but if it only goes 90~100 kph anyway that should not be as big a concern.

At higher speed it will be less efficient compared to a more streamlined equivalent, but at moderate speed with a lighter body it could be good a simpler 2 box design should be cheaper also.

Absolutely hideous.

Moskvich?

Moskvich?

That was my 1st thoughts. Though the front end does remind me of a MK2 Cortina and the rear looks unfinished.

Overall I kinda like it, but it is an odd one, it does not look anything like as well resolved as that electric retro Honda concept from not too long ago. This looks more like someone actually took an old car and tried (not entirely successfully) to make it look contemporary.

I too like it, what a nice change from the cloned objects being produced now unrecognisable unless badged.

"The company said in a statement on Thursday that the CV-1 car featured a number of "complex systems" with technology that would "let us stand in the ranks of global electric car producers such as Tesla" "

A complex system in a Russian car being a SatNav.

:) When I was growing up, 40 years ago, Russian products were always crude, but solid and cheap.
