I had it in my mind that the last Mahindra's in the UK would have been earlier than that. Was the Mahindra Jeep still on the go when the Asia Motors Rocsta was on sale here? (i think that would have been '93 or '94). Regarding the driving manners, in the Mahindra's defence it was just a licence built Jeep CJ-3, which dates from around the late 40's, using a (license built) 2.1 Peugeot Diesel, so you wouldn't really expect it to drive with any sort of finesse!.
I had a look on Mahindra's website and they still build something very similar to the Jeep, along with a range of other, more generic looking stuff.
I don't remember the Rocsta, BBD, but I think Mahindra gradually disappeared through the early '90s.
Hadn't realised it was based on a '40s Jeep, crude it certainly was.
Here is the Asia Motors Rocsta, which looked more like the later Jeep CJ-5,

It was South Korean and used the ultra reliable Mazda 1800 petrol and 2.2 n/a Diesel.
Davey, looked at some pics, it's an ugly little thing, but i dunno, i kinda like it!. Also, despite it's apparent size, pics online of the interior show a '1+1' passenger seat, making it potentially a 6 seater!. Though i don't suppose for a moment that option will be offered in the UK.
