Stansted airport parking - S40 Man

Can't believe the price of parking here.3 days, admittedly in August, best airport park is £67 We normally for from Garrick and a quick check for here confirms my thought, it's only £40.

That's a big difference in my book. Anyway I was so cheesed off I elected to park on someone's drive, 1 mile away for £32. Anyone done this before? My old mondy is a bit of a wreck so im not to worried. I'd also rather give my cash to a person than a big greedy ( in this case certainly) corporation.

Airport parking really is a racket and one the Competition and Markets Authority should look at. Robbery of the first order.

I've tried other sites and not getting anything cheaper at all. Is train or coach not an option?

Have you tried parkonmydrive.com ?

Stanstead airport parking - oldroverboy.

I used to use sites such as Vouchercodes.co.uk or hotukdeals to find discount offers..

My taxi driver does it for free.. he has his 1953 Ford pop in my garage plus a lot of other junk, and does not pay rent. Airport taxis FREE... Yippee.

I think you're right about the monopoly. As far as I could tell stanstead only has one car park company. No competition, = higher prices. Gatwick has a lot more choice and lower prices.

I used just Park in the end. I didn't like the parkonmydrive website ~ sane difference though.

Stansted parking not great anyway, arriving late at night back wasn't good. Got a taxi from Basingstoke to Stansted last time which wasn't cheap but balanced by the cheaper holiday compared with Gatwick. Driver not happy paying over £3 to drop us off but of course I got that too. Agree airport parking is a rip off.

I have a deal with a work colleague. I'll drop him and his partner off at the airport and collect - and he does the same for me.

The OP asked about parking on someone's drive. I've done this twice.

Ours is a medium size car but In both instances the spaces were very pretty tight. In one case parking was supposed to be enough for three cars but two cars were already parked and it was impossible to park next to them and actually get out of the car. Luckily the homeowner was at home and moved his own car to make a viable space.

If you are a defensive parker (I plead guilty) then you are taking a risk in commitiing to a space you can't see until you get there.

The OP may well be more relaxed but I would still suggest reading any customer feedback on the space to ensure they are pre-warned of any issues. Its a bit late when you arrive with a flight to catch.

Never parked long term at Stansted but it's pretty costly to park short term close to terminal while picking up.

I'd guess anything at this time of year will be pricy and daily rate for three days, particularly if one of them is Fri/Sat/Sun is going to be a lot more than for weeks.

Experience at othe MAG airports, Manchester itself and East Midlands, is that the JetParks were not wildly expensive if you chose location carefully. Jetpark Ringway for a fortnight when we went to States was, IIRC about £80. East Midlands was five days in Autumn half term for about £40 but we were in Jetpark 3(?) and nearly at Donington Park - long way from Terminal.

Nowadays I try to avoid this airport, used to be parking outside the front door and a 10 minute wak in an almost straight line via check in to passport control and on to the departure lounge, nowadays passport control has been moved and it's a zoo to get through security followed by a mile walk past other passengers walking very slowly in a zig-zag to the lounge. Hopeless for those in a rush, and not much better for those with reduced mobility.

Having said this, earlier this week I received an email from the airport with 20% off meet & greet parking, or 15% for other options. Unfortunately I cannot replicate the link on this forum.

I also have to negotiate the Dartford Crossing which is a lottery at the best of times, or use the very slow "Stansted Express" train service.

Gatwick is a nicer airport, both terminals.

Gatwick is a nicer airport, both terminals.

From where I live in SE Midlands Gatwick is an utter PITA to get to involving the lotteries that are M1 or M40 then M25. Manchester is an easier drive and often less time consuming.

I've not been to Stansted for a long time but I did park at Luton airport last year; £60 for a week in the long-term car park, which seems rather fair to me.

As for parking on someone's drive, I'd only do that if they were a friend or family and transport to the terminal could be arranged. I have a young family and my car is too valuable to leave on a random driveway. The last thing I want when returning from holiday is for my car to have been damaged or stolen.

Sorry for straying, but why do British airports insist on making "duty free" a slalom course and NEVER announce the gate until the last minute?

The shop/cafe owners must insist we are treated like children to sign the lease?

Foreign airports don't do this (at least the ones I frequent in Europe).

Stansted airport parking - 72 dudes

Like Trilogy, I recently paid £76 for Short Term 'official' parking for 8 .days.

I could have bought this for £57 earlier in the year when I booked the holiday but didn't expect it to shoot up rapidly.

This price was only available through the Ryanair site where I booked the tickets. If I had gone to any number of other airport parking sites, the price seemed to be £120 across the board.

I wouldn't touch Meet and Greet - does nobody else watch Watchdog, Fake Britain, Rip-Off Britain etc etc?

Having said that, maybe it's the big airports where the scammers operate - my sister often uses Meet and Greet at Leeds/Bradford wih no issues.

Sorry for straying, but why do British airports insist on making "duty free" a slalom course ............

Agreed. We hate Stansted. Long stay parking is so far away it is probably in another county necessitating a lengthy bus ride. Then there's a quarter mile walk through an absurdly overpriced shopping centre. Then you have to catch an underground train. Then, having finally arrived at the airport proper, there's another walk to a gate where with any luck the plane is waiting.

Parked at Stansted the other week the bus journey is something else. The car park is miles from the airport and longer on the return.

Parked at Stansted the other week the bus journey is something else. The car park is miles from the airport and longer on the return.

It's because the arrivals/departures used to be the other side of the airport, right next to where the long term car park is now.

Stansted airport parking - Ian_SW

Non "Airport Express" trains run to Stansted, so why not park at a nearby station carpark and take the train in? The station is right in the terminal too, so no messing around with buses.

Bishops Stortford station has a huge car park, and is only about 10 minutes on the train into the airport. It's £9 per day on weekdays and £3.50 per day on weekends.

Stansted airport parking - drd63

Because you're going on holiday and you want a memorable experience in a good way. Cost of parking is pretty insignificant against the cost of most holidays so why make life difficult when you should be relaxing.

The thought of the stress of our car breaking down or some muppet scraping it in the cramped parking bays at the airport, convinced me that its either a taxi or train to the airport....I am on my hols as soon as we leave the front door...sorted.
Stansted airport parking - S40 Man

The £40 I am saving will pay for a nice meal out. The Ryan air flights were very cheap, it just doesn't seem right that parking for 3 days for cost more than the fights (for 4 people).

The thought of wasting money would probably upset me more than the benefit of less hassle with on site parking. I generally dislike paying for parking anyway. If I am going into town I will always opt for free parking even if we need to walk 5~10 min extra.

I'm from Yorkshire, I can't help it!

Stansted airport parking - S40 Man

We'll out little holiday is now over. Our car was in fact fine parked on someones drive. I hear put an old bike in the boot and it was a 7 min ride the airport. The Mrs and kids got the bus to the free set down area and I was there to pick then up. Theirfore no slower than using the official car park ( and £40 cheaper).

Conclusion ~ I'd do it again if somewhere charges silly money for parking.

Stansted airport parking - AbarthMan17

Try Stansted Mountfitchet, it's an 8 minute train ride to Stansted and the ticket only costs 4 quid. I usually park CM24 8NN. Plenty of spaces so can't imagine locals mind much.

Just used meet and greet at stansted. Why do they call it meet and greet as they do neither!
Stansted airport parking - pyruse

Meet & Greet at Stansted was great the first time we used it (10 years ago), not great the second time (5 years ago) and terrible last time (2 years ago). I wouldn't use it again.

I understood the medium term parking with a bus connection is the way to go.

Stansted airport parking - FoxyJukebox

Yes indeed-medium term plus the bus...It's reliable. As for cost- since it's only once or twice a year--life's too short to worry.
