Hopefully the latter. Disgusting attitude from MB.
I would urge you to find an independent MB specialist who knows these roofs and can do it at reasonable cost.

Been to one who explained how the roof is stuck on, unfortunately no one seems to be willing to take it on. Local body shops just shake their heads. I need to find a real mechanic with the imagination and skill to stick it back...unfortunately I am not one but have been tempted to buy some Gorilla glue.......

Just had a message from Hj, non safety items are covered for a maximum of six years. This car just comes within this time scale but wether this is enforcable I don't know. It's not a matter of money as much as Mercedes giving me the run around. The dealers said the roof had come unstuck in the sun, I asked them to stick it back. Can't do that...needs a whole new roof.
What do you mean by "coming away at the back"?
Where the rear of the roof meets the back window on the near side of the car as the sun gets on it, up it comes. Raises about half to three quarters of an inch for about a length of a foot or so, looks like a lop sided grin. When the cooler evening comes it returns to normal.
When you spoke to your local MB dealer, did you mention the TSB to them, whch covers the roof-fix, that I replied about on your 1st post?
The TSB was mentioned and given little credence, Mercedes have a well oiled machine to keep people like me at arms length. Basically this car can't stand a bit of sun without the roof coming away, German quality? large pinch of salt.

In this case, I think the dealer is the issue as I know my local MB dealer has fixed the same issues on several SLK roofs, both in and outside of warranty. The fix exists and is proven to work-you just need to find a dealer who will actualy take on the job.....
t,
Thanks, that's very interesting CWS. My lot have never seen this before and if I could have evidence of an innate fault it would be of great help. What is the fix you know of?, that would be useful evidence as MB will only offer me a full roof replacement at my cost. Which is your local dealer? I can give them a call for info.
My roof has the same problem, I have a SLK 2012 model too. The top roof skin has come away from the roof frame, but mines at the front. The dealer wants to replace the whole roof for £3300 parts plus labour! I found a Mercedes specialist who is willing to bond the roof outer skin back for around £300.

Black? mine was never resolved. When it's hot I just cover it over but this week it's traded in. Good luck with yours, hope you get it fixed.
