Vauxhall Corsa 2001 - Selling a 2001 Corsa with no MOT? - Jason Azevedo

Hi all,

I have a 2001 Vauxhall Corsa which is drivable, but has something wrong with it (I think air intake, but couldn't be sure - not a mechanic!), and am selling it without MOTing.

I don't want to MOT because if I start forking out for stuff I'll end up getting less than I would for scrap.

So my question is, should I scrap it, or should I advertise it for someone who might be able to fix it themselves/tinker with it/do whatever - and if so - what price is reasonable?

I've had a quote for scrap for £118 - collection.

Thanks in advance!

Really difficult question to answer without knowing more about the car and its overall condition.

1st point though, what makes you think it is the air intake?, as, to my mind (i'm also not a mechanic) an air intake is simply a hole into which air is taken so i don't see how (other than being blocked) that could cause any issues.

How does this problem manifest itself?

Did the car need much for it's last MOT?, was there advisories, if so, what?

What sort of condition is the car in and how many miles?.

I know that is a good age for a Corsa, but whether or not it is worth saving will really depend on how the above questions are answered. Also, can you be bothered advertising it, having folk coming round, possibly offering less than scrap?. If the car is rough looking, then i'd probably take the £118.

If you’ve been offered £118 for it then grab it with both hands. A 17yr old Cora’s with no MOT is worthless, you won’t get more and you’ll no doubt attract a load of toe rags to your door if you advertise it. Scrap it and save any hassle.

Agree...^^^...I'd take even less.!...just to be rid of it without hassle.

Yes, it's best days are far behind it. Not worth the trouble compared with a collection scrappy.

Only worth spending time on if it is in unusually good condition and you want to keep using it. It's unlikely anyone else will.
