Bit of a daft, light-hearted afternoon post here...

As the chances are apparently lower than winning the lottery... has this ever happened to ANYONE on here? I'd assume we have more lottery winners here on Honest John.

Oh I dunno, they only buy used (Japanese) lottery tickets here I think...

I've been close to several lightning strikes in my life - mostly on power lines alongside roads, and once on a river where I was racing a dinghy with an aluminium mast -- eeek!

Pucker up!

When I was about 5 our house was struck by lightning, chimney down into fireplace, light fittings blew, a flash jumped across the room from the meter to a k****** power point: missed me by about 4 feet.

I've certainly been in aircraft that have been struck by lightning, and come to no harm :-)

Moving vehicles can be struck by lightning - but the occupants should be uninjured (unless in a soft-top convertible!) as the vehicle acts as a mobile Faraday cage, diverting the electrical energy around the outside.

I'm not sure whether the Faraday cages that HJ recommends for keeping your car keys in will work quite as effectively!

So have I, a storm gathered and we was warned of turbulent ride, though after the lightning strike which was just a heavy crack nothing else happened

I saw an mains electric box on a post explode near the coast as a car went under it, luckily the box just hanged from post otherwise the car would have been severley damaged, it had been struck by the lightning but no damage that I could see though driver carried on as if nothing had happened...
