My roof comes up at the rear about half an inch for a length of 7/8 inches in very hot sunshine. Local dealers had a look and their technician said it 'had come unstuck' Now they want to replace the whole roof for £2500...with discount! Is this not a repair job rather than a very expensive bolt another bit on job?

Yes of course it's a repair job, not throw ridiculously priced parts at it job.

Sounds like a visit to a Merc specialist indy is on the cards, who do their best to fix sub assemblies as necessary instead of this far too typical dealer approach, only surprised they didn't say needs a new car sir, for £55000.

Yes that's tomorrow's job, local indie is having a look. Last roof problem on a CLK was quoted at £1000 or so at the main lot, indie did it for £100...sensor needed tweaking but it was a faff to get at.

Go back to the dealer and ask them about the Mercedes TSB which applies to SLK roofs de-bonding. This TSB was issued over 12months ago and advised dealers on how to fix existing roofs with this problem - as I recall the roof is removed and then sealent (which has been heated in hot water) is injected and the the roof section rotated by hand to get the sealent flowing. I don't think you need a new roof.

May also be worth contacting Prestige Car Service based in Horndean, Hants, as they are one of the leading MB indy's in the UK plus have access to the MB system and may be able to stear you in the right direction.
