Further to 'Mistaken Identity' - the Oxford park and ride system asks for only a partial number plate input and then displays a picture of your vehicle for you to confirm that it's the right one. Seems Oxford council are at pains to help you get it right, unlike private parking companies. Why aren't they all like this? I wonder.

The poster with the 2012 Meriva B 1.7 CDTI should try replacing the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. The symptoms he describes would point to it.Make sure to fit a genuine MAF sensor as the cheap Ebay don't always work.

I cannot agree that 5k is needed to purchase a car for reliability, other half bought a 10 year old vehicle for 2.5k and it has been great, never had an issue with it and covered a vast amount of miles. My own car is nearly 20 years old and not had a breakdown or failure for multiple years.

I also agree about the 5k for reliability being incorrect, but you have to know what you're buying! Without being too unfair on certain brands, a Japanese car such as a mid range Honda civic is likely to be ultra reliable, even as a 15 year old car....
