Are there any insurance experts in the forum that could help me please.
I've had a damage only accident involving one other car. I've informed my insurance company and given all details. The damage to my car is minor and easily repairable, I can do this. The damage to his car is less than expected and he is happy to get it fixed locally at my expense. My insurance company is happy that we fix the vehicles ourselves at no cost to them ( of course). But would this be beneficial to me ?
My question is: having informed my insurance company of the accident is there any benefit paying for his repair or will I be loaded just the same?

I'm far from an expert, but if you are happy the other party is genuine and isn't going to develop some malady in 2 years time and come back at you, and only you can judge this from the short period with the other person...IMHO there are still a lot of people out there who are straight and not looking to make loadsa money from a simple damage accident, however it's possible the other party will get calls from so called claims management/lawyers (sharks) informing them of how much compo is waiting for them, so be sure of the pther party.

For benefits, you keep your NCD intact, no excess to pay and when you come to renewal and look for new quotes (you should do this anyway regardless and let them match the better quote, it keep them on their toes) you can honestly admit the accident but say that no costs to the insurer involved.

If the other party does succumb to compo temptation down the line, i assume your current uinsurer can still deal with the case at a later date, after all you're only trying to keep costs down for everyone including them, but that might be worth asking your insurer about and see what they have to say.

This is what i would do, but as said i'm far from an insurance expert.

I suggest you get the other party to sign a declaration confirming full and final settlement for your contribution to their damage.

Has his car been fully inspected? There could be damage under the skin that may only come to light during the repair, or even further down the line. When someone rear-ended me a few years ago, what seemed like a small respray turned into a new bumper, new parking sensors and two new wheels.

It may seem nasty, but you've no reason to trust this person, and there's no telling what he may try to pull.

I'd get his car inspected by his garage before agreeing to anything; pay for the inspection yourself if you have to. You'll know exactly what you're paying for and he can't come back to you in a few weeks citing "new information".
