Brake Pads - Ford or Motorcraft - What??? - the_bandit

So a main dealer gives me two prices for a set of brake pads. One is a Ford part and the other Ford Motorcraft. Ford part is considerably dearer. I was told they are the same just in a different box.

What is going on here?

Marketing!

Ford don't make brake pads, anyway, whether they are boxed as Ford or Ford Motorcraft. They are probably actually made by someone like Ferodo.

That's how glass palaces get paid for.

Some years ago the family 320 Compact needed new pads, the owner got them from the maker's parts dept for me to fit, i noticed the pads were Textar brand without any markings other than Textar's part numbers on the pads.

I got the same make and model pads from either ECP or G&S for around 1/3rd the main dealer price, and the OE parts were returned and refunded.

That’s a good honest main dealer to be honest! Most would try to sell the one with most markup.
