Hi I am looking at buying a used Superb estate around 2016 model. Has anyone had recent experience of haggling with Skoda main dealers. I am looking to get around £1k off asking price.

All you can do is ask. If they say no and you are not happy walk away.

But it will probably depend on the car. If its an unpopular spec that has been with them for a good while you will be in a better place to get a deal than if the car is top notch and has only been with them for days.

But remember a few simple things, Skoda dealers are car dealers, they are not a unique species, they are in business to make a profit. And rule one of car buying is simple, all salesmen are liars.

We have 2 Skoda's but both were bought new via a broker thus no negotiation required.

You can save £1,000+ just by searching nationally and see what is being asked at different dealers.

There can be wide regional variations so be prepared to travel for a deal.

Yes, but remember that it may be inconvenient to sort out immediate problems if the seller is a long way away.

If that is a risk the OP isn't willing to take, the lower prices can be used at local dealers as evidence there are cheaper models out there.

Just looked on the Carfile webite, bought our 2 Skoda's vua them.

The cheapest 1.6 diesel estate is £20277 and the cheapest 1.4 TSi petrol is £21200. There is an extra £4000 to come off those prices if you take out the PCP, pay off within 14 days and its only just over £1 a day interest and you keep the £4000.

So that a brand new car with 3 years warranty for just over £16000, £17000 for the petrol.

Unless the used ones are a decent sum less than that why would you risk used?

Skoda dealers are as different from each other as any business and there’s no fixed pricing policy regarding used stock. One may overprice in order to appease customers who go in with discount or part exchange prices as their number one fixations. it’s easy to knock £1k off if it’s overpriced by the same amount but you’re no better off than you would be at the next dealer who priced their car correctly but doesn’t budge a penny.

Shop around, make sure you’re comparing like for like and watch out for pre 2014 TSi petrol motors which are prone to timing chain problems and pre 2015 diesels (especially the 1.6) which are known for EGR and DPF issues post emissions fix. I’d leave the DSG autos too which are known for hugely costly failures as they age.

Use one car that’s cheaper at a dealer further away to negotiate by all means but remember to factor in any disputes which would involve returning the car to the original dealer. With an approved used car with a Skoda warranty it should be fine to claim at any Skoda main dealer.

Discount isn’t the priority, it’s the actual price to buy/change that counts. Often the best deal comes from a dealer who’s offering nothing off.

Plenty of shopping around and then some hard dealing. They have recently finished their deposit contribution offer but still should be able to do some good deals. If your looking at finance haggle hard as the variation is huge between dealers!

Just looked on the Skoda site. The £4000 contribution is still current for cars ordered untl 02 July. But since the OP is buying used its irrelevant.
