The dealer told me this is metallic paint, but it doesn't look as shiny as the other metallic paint cars I've seen?

There is a very different shade of blue for the Tucson which looks much more metallic.

Is he telling me porkies?

Can't tell from the pictures. Go to Hyundai's website and you should be able to look at a brochure online which wll tell you which colours are solid and which metallic.

Could it be pearlescent.?..my vehicle is pearl white and in certain lights doesn't always seem as "glossy" as one might imagine.

I couldn't find it on the uk Hyundai site. I think it classed as Stargazing Blue.

There were a few scratches/scuffs on the bumber and front lights which i wasn't expecting when I went to see it, given its only done 9 miles.

Said they can replace the front light cover and do sometging with the scratches.

'CAN' or 'WILL' replace, and 'do something' ... like, some details maybe, of exactly what they'll be doing ?

I suspect that this is a usual case of a salesman promising the earth ... until they've got your money. At which point, tough, it's heavily discounted for a reason.

Hi Kat

Thanka for clarifying. It is less vivid than the Ara blue.

I still like the colour i just wasn't sure if it offers as much protection over the years as metallic paint?

Also if it might impact its resell appeal further down the line given the popularity of metallic paint. I know metallic paint costs extra when biying new (extra £665 i think). Im not sure if tbats the case with the pearl stargazing blue or if its more of 'standard' finish.

configure.hyundai.co.uk/tucson?trim=se-nav-1091 - white is free the rest are £665

All cars (flat, metallic, perlescent) have paint applied & then have at least 2 layers of clearcoat. So there should be no difference in the colours over time.

In the past flat cars did not have clearcoat & the evidence of the older cars, particularly reds, fading over time (red became pink especially on bonnet, boot lid, roof)

My previous vehicle was pearlescent white. I managed to put a couple of small scratches on the near side door when diving into a hedge to avoid being obliterated by a wayward BT van in a narrow lane. I eventually decided to get them touched in by a mobile repairer. However I was told that it was not possible to match the finish and the solution was to spray the whole side of the car. I will research much more carefully in future. A £120 Chipsaway repair is acceptable but a semi respray is both expensive and disproportionate.

its flat paint that’s the cheapest, metallic and pearl are similar priced, though pearl can be slightly more expensive, i think the difference is pearl has some flakes in the paint, that’s not the variety one eats with their ice cream, but some glitter type of substance that makes it look a different shade at differing angles.

I had a Citroen Xsara with pearl red and that look different at different angles and at night, now i have an i20 in pearl blue (cant remember the exact name) and that is a flat blue, though at night it reflects light to give a sparkle effect. a chap did a very minor bumper repair and got the colour perfect.
