Of course if the police DID stop them, the plea would always be "Yeah just found it fallen off this mornin innit boss, an ampt ad time to get new screws yet innit" and it would be difficult for the police to prove otherwise at that moment.
I suggest police cars go equipped with a rivet gun or extreme superglue, so they can very firmly re-affix the plate for the hapless owner, and record the registration on a database to say it had been found in this condition, for any future reference. Would only take a few minutes.
Then there are the plates with the illegal character spacing, or even curly italic fonts. Drives me nuts: Why do they think they can so blatantly stick two fingers up at the law of the land?
