Volvo v70 2.4 automatic 2000 - Radiator replacement - KCSRenault

Hello,

My recently aquired volvo v70 2.4 automatic, has developed a coolant leak. It seems to be coming from between the cooling fan housing and the radiator. It drips down onto the garage floor at night and when looking underneath seems to be driping from the centre of the radiator. Is this a hard job to change for your average garage? My normal mechanic, who is a volvo specialist is away for three weeks and i cannot wait that long. Is it simple enough to do, with the automatic transmission cooler fitted on the auto models.

Is this best left to a specilaist or should it be simple enough for any garage?

Many thanks

My view is that on a car of that age, a bottle of Radweld is the way to go..

That’s the worst advice i’ve seen so far on this forum, any competent garage will be woke to fix it. Then get your trusted specialist to check the work when hes back.

Really? There's no way I'd be spending unnecessary money on an 18 year old car. Radiator this week, alternator next week, something else the next. Unless it is a serious leak, Radweld will almost certainly fix it. Used it many times with no adverse affects.

I'm in your club PC, if its been looked after there's donkeys years left in this Volvo (from the days they still made them proper), and it deseves better than to have its cooling waterways bunged up with some bodgit and scarper mixture.

GB. Like me, you are happy to get your hands dirty. Bangernomics doesn't work so well when you have to pay someone else to keep a car running. Maybe, if the OPs car is a fantastic one owner, low mileage example then maybe, but for most the next stop for a V70 will be a banger race (for which they are good). Understand that may bring a tear to your eye.

Confession, i was a banger racer in my misspent youth, though the typical stuff we bangered couldn't have been saved because of terminal rust.

I'm ointo keeping cars like this Volvo going as long as possible because we'll never see their like again, and nor will the electronic laded models being made today last anywhere near as long as those 90's designs, imho the pinnacle years of durable car design.
