An elderly neighbour has decided to dispose of his PT Cruiser 2 litre auto..

No faults, needs front brakes doing . still got MOT...

Have another elderly friend who needs a cheapo car , so have given neighbour £200 for it, (it drives like a dream, tyres nearly new, bodywork perfect, leather etx, no warning lights, no starting problems. About £300 +vat for calipers, discs and brake pads, and will give it an oil change and fresh MOT. Service history complete with tons of bills, EVERYTHINg that was needed was done.

will pass along to other friend if he wants it... Otherwise will use as a 2nd car, SWMBO likes automatics...

What does the panel/jury think? I think it is too good to get £100 or so from a scrappy!

I must confess to having a liking for the PT cruiser!. I like the fact that it gave people a chance of having a car that was both distinctive (in an unashamedly American retro style), but at the same time being a practical family wagon. Yes they are a bit cheesy, no the build quality is nothing to write home about, none of the petrol models are very efficient, but still....!

A customer of mine has been thinking of getting rid of theirs for a couple of years now, but still when it comes down to it, they don't go through with it. Possibly because they are worth so little?

Girl in the office had one, 55 plate. It was rusty, unreliable, uneconomical and she absolutely loved it.

Must have been mad.

It’s rubbish but it’s different and cheap two things I absolutely love. Run it as a rubbish tip/pub/railway/airport car park smoker and it’ll earn its keep.

Complete junk ,but good for nothing untill it dies. Low rent build and quality ,but very expensive main dealer parts,if you can get them. Btw,you will probably need front suspension arms at every mot .

Chrysler owners are being advised to go to Jeep for their servicing. I can’t see parts being an issue on that basis. It’s true they are very expensive though!

I you scan around on the web there are tons of non-oem parts available at reasonable prices.

is it a future classic?

Chrysler PT cruiser - AM I mad? - oldroverboy.

is it a future classic?

It is different, certainly. was told last night that brke discs had been replaced recently...so maybe just a sticking caliper?

Makes me smile, though, from some of the remarks I could have been reading about Rover...

Basically. itis a cheap punt for

1. my neighbour, who is the only owner since new, and i know the history, 15 years of receipts for the car.....

2. maybe it will keep an elderly friend on the road a bit longer...

3. giving me something to occupy myself a bit....

Any car at that price and that history is worth a punt!

It's ugly, expensive to run and about as reliable as wet cardboard, but it has a certain charm to it. In some ways, it reminds me of old Alfas.

I agree that they could be a future classic, so keep hold of the receipts, look after it and it could really be worth something.

A car for the price of a council tax payment; not half bad.

I can appreciate the act of introducing something different, something retro, to interrupt the seemingly endless flow of anonymous jelly moulds.

However my own view, irrelevant as it might be to the question of whether the car is worth saving as a runabout or "future classic" is that its one of the least aesthetically pleasing cars I've ever clapped eyes on.

I'm not a fan of the styling either, but, for example, for someone who needs a van in the week and a family car at the weekend, they are becoming a bit of a bargain.

I like the styling very much. I've noticed that a French circus adapted one of the convertible versions into a pickup truck to use for advance publicity. There was a lineup of 8 of these cars at a show I went to in 2016. I can see the registration numbers of 4 of them in the photos I took and find that only one of them currently has no MOT.
