Looking at a 17 plate 2.0tdi 150 bdo Skoda Superb estate in L and k spec. As the car was registered after the 1st April it falls under the new tax rules whic I believe is £140 a year?. Is this the standard rate that I will pay from now onwards or could it potentially change?
It’s a great car but I have considered finding a 66 plate!

Tax generally stays as is in terms of bands, tax rate etc and increases each budget.

Assuming that a 66-plate ".) TDI would be £30 per annum, the difference isn't enough to influence the decision. 6 months more on the warranty is enough to compensate anyway.

But a nearly-new L & K sounds like a good buy: the extra cost of all the bells and whistles ovwer lower trim levels will be much less than it was when the car was new.

Personally speaking, it was a bad change for the average motorist and wholy designed to raise revenue for the Treasury (what. a. surprise). If you have the opportunity, try and source a 17 plate model registered between March 1st and 31st, as you get the benefit of the new reg over a 66 plate, but stil the lower VED, which changed on 1st April 2017.

You may find that owners have got wise to this and jack the price up accordingly, as it could save new owners anywhere from £5 to over £100 per year in VED, for cars that are essentially identical and registered only a month (or less) apart. Also worth doing for some cars had been revised at that time, such as the Mazda3, where the changes came into effect in Nov/Dec. I'm sure a few others at least fall into this category as well, which makes them worth more (assuming the changes were for the better!).

Just to let similar sufferers know that my letter and last two years official emissions results DOCUMENTS for my 2007 3 L Petrol Sprite Jaguar has been forwarded by my MP to the Treasury asking why my Road Tax is £535 when the official current emission level is better than the Government benchmark and as a for instance better than a new VOLVO Diesel for which the road tax is less than 1/2 what I pay.

Apparently there is a review being undertaken about the whole tax set up because its ridiculous concept has been scientifically shredded and manufacturers dealers buyers and sellers placed in a panic strewn level of uncertainty which daily is crippling all levels of the industry.Owners of shares in any aspect of the motor industry in UK may need to review their holdings with some urgency

I;ll keep you posted and have copied complaint to WHICH

It"s pretty simple and plenty of tables around which confirm emissions and tax payable for pre and post April 2017 registrations. Its why I delayed registration of my car last year as it reduced annual tax by c£400pa but I had to pay the larger 1st registration amount. I don't see what your MP is going to do when the rules are, and have been clear, there is no point comparing pre and post April 17 cars as the rules are different!
