Does anyone know if rear window displays that light up are legal in the UK?

Look at Reg 11 (2) Road Vehicles Lighting Regs 1989 which states:

(2) No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light,

There is a plethora of exemptions none which seem to fit posers question.

Some taxi firms do not comply because they have an all white to front and rear beacon

which should be white to frent and red to rear.
