2017 Astra Elite 1.4 turbo automatic - Wheel bearings - golfauto11

Hello everybody,

My above vehicle is due for its first service, has done around 12,000 miles. Is it possible that I have a noisy faulty rear (I think) wheel bearing. I seem to hear the familiar whirring sound on a wet and very smooth road surface. Could it just be the type of tyres on the 18"wheels?

Look at the rear tyres and also feel them If the treak blocks are feathering on the edges athen they are likely to be making a noise. Some brands do this, Michelin on our Ceed were terrible.

But your car is under warranty so I suggest you get it checked over. A garage can tell you far more than members of a forum.

Thank you for appearing to challenge my intelligence!! Of course I am going to mention the problem at the service!! I approached the forum in the hope of others having had the same problem, and what "their" outcome might have been. Dealerships are very good at fobbing off, in the event of a warranty claim!!

Does the noise change when turning left or right ?

Assume you have checked things like tyre pressures and wheel nut tightness

Current Astra can be noisy on some road surfaces and worse on some tyre makes than others. Mine has 17" Bridgestones. Very quiet on smooth surfaces but noisier on some others.

Suggest you pose the question on a model specific forum like astrakforums.

Feel the outer edge of your tyres, if there is a bit of a sawtooth feel between tread blocks that can produce a wheel bearing sort of a noise...
