@ Knowing your Limits : HUDs are starting to appear as a fitted standard on some Mazda's, and available as optional extras on a lot of the other German brands. Agree we spend too much time looking at dials, when we should be looking ahead. Fixed cameras are to blame for a lot of that behaviour.
I found the Mazda HUD very good - the newer versions also (in addition to just the speed) have a speed limit warning system - I think it tell you of any change in speed limit, not sure about warning for any speed cameras, as I didn't pass by any when I was test driving a CX-3 Sport this time last year so cannot comment.
I also do like car systems that have 'warning bongs' (as long as the facility can be easily switched on/off by the driver) for going over the speed limit - I find this very useful when using my Nokia Lumia 620 phone as a satnav (FOC Here Maps/Drive facility) - its not wholy accurate (sometimes it gets the demarcation of speed limits wrong), but its right about 95-99% of the time in my experience. Also giving a (fixed) 'speed camera warning' is obviously very useful too, especially if you're driving in an unfamiliar area.
