Any - French police handing out €50 rewards to drivers - Theophilus

Police on patrol in the Dordogne are planning to pull over several drivers today and give them a €50 voucher as a reward for good driving!

Officers in unmarked cars will offer the vouchers - which can be used to pay for fuel - to four drivers who drove courteously, stayed within the speed limits, use their indicators correctly.

They will (discretely!) follow vehicles for 15 minutes, during which time they will carry out a check on the vehicle to see if they driver has any convictions. If the motorist unknowingly 'passes' all the tests, they will be stopped, congratulated and handed a €50 voucher by a journalist from a local radio station

It’s planned to repeat the scheme six times a year, coinciding with the start of the school holidays or on bank holiday weekends.

That won't cost 'em a lot judging by the total inability of French drivers to achieve any of the above, let alone all three within fifteen minutes!

Rest assured "les flics" will recoup the notes much faster than they are being doled out! Expect sudden clamping down on blue "EU" flashes in place of Vienna Convention black on white, non-EU, oval GB stickers come B-Day, plus anytime soon the usual money-earners of incorrectly dipping headlights, failure to reduce speed 10% in the wet, suspicion of radar detectors, incorrect use of shrug, dropped subjunctives... :-)

My reading of the report (correct reading quite possibly lost in translation!) was not that the €50 would come out of police budgets, but probably funded by the local radio station who were sending a journalist to get cheap copy.
