eBay Popup - fredthefifth

Appreciate it not motoring discussion but its happening when i access this forum. I'm getting an eBay popup with no cross to clear it that obscures what i am trying to read. There's some sort of url at the bottom that is probably malformed I suspect. This is using chrome on an Android tablet. Anyone else?

I am using Chrome on a windows PC and have never seen it.

Also I use adblocker and ghostery which does help in blocking ads. There is a lot of ads on HJ pages.

eBay Popup - oldroverboy.

You will need to use an adblocking browser such as duckduckgo or adblockplus browser.

I have given up trying to read things on my phone and tablet as too many pop ups are occurring.

go to your settings too, block everything, pop ups, auto video play, tick/untick the privacy settings as you want them, stop scripts running etc etc. and frequently delete your browsing history

It could be your tablet's been hacked or at least been infected with a virus or most likely malware/adware from visiting another website. Try the pop-up blocker ad-ons available on Chrome, and, if you have an internet security suite on your main computer, it may be one that has more than one licence, so you can install the (admitedly cut down version) on your Android tablet (I do that with Bitdefender and previously with Kaspersky).

You may want to consider using Firefox for Android, at least for websites affected, as it definitely does come with a lot of good quality ad and popup blockers (I use uBlock Origin & AdGuard AdBlocker, plus Ghostery).

For future threads like this, you may wish to post this in the 'General discussion' section in the Back Room.

Adblocker works a treat for me, though you do have to put up with annoying messages on some news websites that wail pathetically about the advertising revenue they lose because of you an' your wretched blocker, and "will you please turn it off?"

Oddly enough, I used to get this as a (paying) subscriber to the Daily Telegraph, but not any more - it could be because of my second ad/popup blocker I mentioned being used in concert with the first, or both with Ghostery. Not really sure, but its nice whilst it lasts!

I tried Firefox and the popup didnt appear, in fact its stopped happening in Chrome now. Bit of a mystery and Malwarebytes didnt find anything.
