Pcp deal or no deal? - NAthan smith
Looking at a car for sister in law as you do. Found a 65 plate golf with 30K on the clock at £13000. Over 48m with a £2000 deposit (7000 miles a year) they have quoted £149 a month with 2 free services? Is this a good deal?

Which engine, fuel, trim level, how many previous owners, which part of the country, does it have a full VW service history?

Without such details it isn't possible to answer.

A Seat or Skoda of the same spcification would probably be cheaper, their dealers often get more favourable reports than VW ones too.

I wouldn't personally choose a Golf anyway.

Also - hard to tell re £149/month . How much interest, final payment & trade in value etc..

As Its a used car, it is very unlikely PCP will be a good deal.

She is paying out almost 10,000 to rent a car for 4 years, plus she needs to replace the £2,000 deposit over that time.

Always be mindful that the car will be 7 years old by the end of the deal. At 4-5 years old an owner can expect to be having to pay for some repairs and replacements. Nothing worse than getting a repair bill for a few hundred quid knowing the car is still be being paid for.

PCP’s only add up when it’s subsidised by a manufacturer or dealer almost always this means buying new. On used cars they’re typically 8.9% APR or worse which compares very badly with a bank loan which can be had from 2.9% APR, thus saving a small fortune in interest plus there’s none of those unnecessary extra fees like you get with car finance. “Option to purchase fee” “Final payment fee” “admin fee” etc etc.

No. Is it through a dealer like Car Shop that markets on weekly cost?. Aside from the borrowing cost, balloon payment etc the 7k mileage is absurdly restrictive.

The sticker price also looks pretty high though we'd need detail of model/trim/engine etc to be sure.
