Got a Seat Leon ST for work, 67 plate, and to my annoyance the built in satnav does not have up to date maps. It is missing the new sections of M8 leading into Glasgow and the A725 Raith Underpass which both opened in February 2017.

Does anyone else here have a Seat and do your maps seem out of date also? I've searched ponline and I seem to have the latest maps available which is very disappointing. It uses HERE maps.

Kia use the same maps - they provide an annual update which is issued in the Spring. It you buy a Garmin unit you'll get three updates a year. Hence people using their smartphones with Google maps or similar

I had a May 2016 Leon SC which didn’t show a local bypass that opened in March ‘15.
I have just changed it for a face lift April 2017 model that shows it.

I have a 2017 SEAT Toledo and although it is possbile for the user to update the maps (using an online portal) this facility is not enabled in the UK.

Skoda uses the same platform and the user / car owner is entitled to 3 years of free map updates, whereas SEAT charges for this facility.

Chargeable Sat-nav updates and only 2 years break-down cover (as opposed to 3 years with Skoda) were the 2 glarring differences I came across when recently switching between the 2 brands.

So are you saying when the new maps come out in the spring I will have to pay for them? Ridiculous.

Ten years ago I insisted on built in SatNav. Now I rely on Waze. It's a free App, with superb traffic avoidance software, so I no longer use built in Satnav at all. You're better off with Android Drive or the Apple clone.

I use google maps rather than waze. Is there an advantage to Waze?

Probably very similar as Google have owned Wze for the last few years.

Think the main difference is that people can report problems directly on Waze which gets filtered through to other users.

Kia's map updates are free - but there's an approx. £25 labour charge to install them because it's so complicated, i.e., put SD in slot and press "update"!

Thats what I use in the Superb. Every bit as good as manufactures sat nav in the Nissan and it updates regularly for free (Notes maps are 2013 vintage and Nissan want approx £180 for a new SD card which will probably still be out of date).

Problem is FREE is not acceptable to many people. Something that costs loads of money must be better so they insist on having it.

Map updates should be provided for free, particularly during the warranty period. I think Kia/Hyundai do this.

I'm not impressed with the Sat Nav on my Toledo, it has the habit of freezing and failing to display my location... the Nissan Birdview system on my old Primera was much better. Having said that, I never updated it, and in the last few years of car ownership often found myself driving off the marked roads, eg the A2 that was re-aligned between the M25 and M2 motorways.
