Whilst i'm always glad to see criminals like these getting their just reward, there's rather a lot of emphasis on telematics being the hero in the aarticle, if this becomes a trend it could well end badly for the millions of us who don't need big brother watching.

Shame the article's author didn't bother to research the correct spelling of "Hyundai", but pedantry aside, this is a good result.

The scum who commit such offences have infested our roads, plying a trade that causes distress and financial loss for decent folks, for far too long.

Personally I'm content to let telematics take the credit, if through it doing so more of these parasites can be nailed and neutralised by the justice system.

Perhaps more of an advocate for dashcams?

This was a civil case, there is no mention of a follow-up criminal case for conspiracy to defraud an insurance company.

I know that sometimes a civil case can follow on from the findings of a criminal case, but the other way round?

Is this just a library photo of an unrelated crash? It clearly isn't a UK road - and it certainly isn't February - unless taken in the southern hemisphere. Is this actually a true story or just a piece of Telegraph entertaiment?

It's toy cars in the picture sould assume it was unrelated!

And toy cars circa 1990. That looks like a Volvo 245 running into a Ford Escort. Did the Telegraph really print that as if it was a real photo of the crash?

I'm glad I'm a Times reader.

Yes, I was rather confused by that post, and spent a little while searching the article looking for another photo. Clearly the paper's photographer had a day off, so they turned to the Editor's kids and asked them to construct a quick mock up.

Why? What's to fear from your driving standards being monitored?

Considering some of the driving I see every day I'd welcome it.

surely if there was an intent to defraud the insurer then a criminal prosecution must follow ... possibly the police need to be informed?

Some years ago probably about 2002, I was asked to give evidence to a planning enquiry regarding an application our organisation had made. Simple application for a car park extension but made complicated by the fact that the district boundary ran along the car parks limits thus 2 local authorities became involved. All parties were allowed a few minutes to speak and then ask questions of the other parties. I said my bit and then the leader of the protest said hers producing photos showing the area being all muddy and torn up by car tyres saying she did not want this next door again. I looked at the photo's and the cars shown were A35's, Hindustani type Morris Oxfords, Mk 1 Ford Consul types etc., clearly not a recent photo. Add to that a building on our site constructed in the 1960's was not there and the area we wanted to use as the car park was currently a disused and overgrown tennis court so no muddy tyre tracks possible.

So I asked the lady a simple question, when was the photo taken, 1958 she replied. The appeal was thrown out but how much time for the 2 authorites had been wasted. She should have been made to pay for the time wasted due to her only reason for complaint being a few 45 year old photo's.

She moved soon after.
