Mazda 2 - Torque Converter Autos with Timing Chain? - drbe

I am toying with buying a different car. Is there anywhere I can find a list of cars with timing chains as opposed to belts and with torque converter automatic gearboxes?

Small to medium size for preference.

Yes. I20 is 4 speed TC

Auto Not fuel efficient. But i10 is a cracking car for what it is supposed to do.

Though I understand there is a known issue with sticking rear brakes.?

Since last service( 2nd year) sometimes in the morning the parking break only release with a slight noise when moving away. Not a convern yet.

If it's an automatic gearbox, no need to use the parking brake. Leave it in park?

New or used? Price range, £1,500 or £50,000? Mazda 2 uses a chain and has a torque converter so does a Mazda 3, 6 and a Range Rover V8 diesel at £100,000. We need to know your budget.

...and annual mileage/journey type (for petrol/diesel etc), space (boot, passengers, etc) requirements as diesel cars often come with belt driven engines. Plus budget for annual maintenance, insurance etc.

Small or medium size car. Small budget. Up to say, £20,000. Used cars, no objection up to say, 4 years old.

£20k isn't a small budget for a car! You could get almost any non-premium (and one or two small premium cars) mid-spec autos for that price at a maximum of 1yo (many even new [Mazda3 for example] if you get the right discount or go via a broker). Up to 4yo will cover almost all cars of the size you want.

£20k is a maximum!!

It's a limit, not a target.....

I’d favour the Mazda 3. It’s chain driven, has an advanced lightweight torque converter gearbox, drives very nicely and has a great reputation for reliability. I’d personally have a cheaper lower spec car but with your healthy budget why not buy a used top spec Sport with all the toys? Auto Trader:

I also know the previous model Nissan Note (63 reg and earlier) had a 1.6 cam chain and a great torque converter auto with overdrive. When the next model was introduced I think it came with a CT auto.

Of similar vintage was the Hyundai i30 Auto which also had cam chain and torque converter auto. Later model/versions have a dual clutch auto I think.

[EDIT] - Ah - just seen the £20k budget
