Citroen C15 Van (retro courier van) - The hardest working Citroen C15 van in the UK - JEREMYH

Hello

Always read this site for years and just joined so I would like to share my life with the hardest working C15 van in the UK as my first post

I have a small courier company in Devon and we have to control every penny to keep going

My secret weapon has always been the C15 van they are becomming very rare and Im always on the look out for late models.

The one I drive myself on long distance at the moment is 53 plate one I got it on 75k and it is now on 130k we have done this in 12 months !! All I did was replace a starter and a drive shaft and service it.

It is not unusual to drive this thing 1500 miles a week and one busy week in the summer I did 2400 in a week taking in Cornwall London , Norfolk and Inverness among other areas of the land .

I love these old vans I can maintain them in my workshop without any computers and the costs of working with it are very very low . It has the PAS DW8 1.9 engine so bullet proof but it has never been shot at !!!!

It goes from Exeter to London most weeks amd we beleive it is the hardest working C15 in the UK

Welcome to the forum, Jeremy.

Your C15 engine is from the golden age of diesels, which will rattle on noisily but reliably for years. More recent diesels are liable to expensive failure as the miles mount up, largely as a result of extra gubbins added on in the name of lowering emissions.

I very nearly bought one of these to replace an elderly Renault Extra 1.4 we had in the family for 14yrs but regrettably bought a Kangoo 1.9d which seemed a more civilised but turned out to be a bit of a pig and was replaced before its 6th birthday after one too many problems, largely electrical.

I know a couple of local couriers who just like yourself hunt for pre DPF diesel vans and tidy them up rather than buy a more modern and less reliable recent turbo diesel. The 1.9 and 2.0 HDi Berlingo/Partner, Dispatch/Expert and VW Caddy SDi being the most saught after.

The 8v 2.0 HDi can cover incredible mileages if looked after. I flogged one not long back with 340k and know of another with over 800k on the original engine and gearbox that's still running.

Just about run in now then

They will easily out live some of the rubbish that's on the road at the moment. Don't think the rust protection is anywhere near as good as on the Berlingos though.

Cheap workaround would be get some ACF50 in all the box sections and muck traps
