Kia Sedona diesel 2.9 TS - Sedona cutting out at high revs - Eckikek

Hi, i wonder if anyone has any experience/advice on this problem. I have a 58 plate diesel sedona 2.9 ts.

At around 3000rpm the engine management light comes on then around 60 seconds later the car cuts out. When restarting the engine management light is out and as long as revs are kept to a max of around 2500, then the car is fine, nippy and running smoothly. It can rev to 3000 in neutral without the same happening.

Local garage checked and the code is related to something in the fuel system, it says losing rail pressure but the mechanic checked and it isn't losing pressure, so it's going to cost an arm and a leg just to go through everything, to rule things out and I will be without a car for 2-3 weeks.

Fuel filter has been changed, it's had a good service, the only other code is for one of the heating coils which is being done next week, but the mechanic assures me this isn't the problem.

Any ideas?

Fuel rail pressure is critical on a Crd engine. If the fault code stored relates to low pressure, then this could be hi-pressure pump or injector related. Not unknown for the pumps to break up on these.

Thanks for your reply. The mechanic drove around with me for half an hour, with a diagnostic plugged in and the pressure did not alter, even when the engine management light came on.

That's why he can't speculate so is needing to take the car in and rule one thing after another out. I read that quite often the inlet metering valve can be to blame for similar problems, not sure if you think that it could apply here?

On a crd engine ,both the fuel inlet is controlled and also the high pressure outlet. The inlet/suction control valve could be at fault, but this usually causes low speed/idle issues.May be worth a try.Certainly cheaper than the other parts. You say the filter has been replaced, but is this a good quality branded make?

Thanks again for your advice.

If a poor quality filter was used could it result in the symptoms above? Would a Delphi one be better?

I have only just bought this car, (privately) the chap has obviously hidden this problem from me, but he had done his own service, using a crossland filter, ( receipts from. Eurocar parts), my local garage did a full service but I'm not sure which brand they used. I will check on that! Thanks.

For future readers with similar problems, replacing the inlet metering valve solved it for us, along with new glow plugs.

Bought a new valve for £55, set of new glow plugs for £55 and everything was fitted for £50. Much better than the £1400 for a new fuel pump and injectors that we were first told that we needed.

Code coming up was P0087.

Cheers for the responses.
