This isn't fully evaluated, since I don't generally do cosmetic repairs. I feel that holes are natures way of improving ventilation and drainage, but I had some aluminium foil and sunflower oil left over so I crumpled it into a hole in my sill and burnished it down by rubbing with the rounded end of my T-bar. Took about 3 minutes.

Been in situ for maybe 3 years now. Not much use to me but I think it'd work well for filling holes in door skins, if you like that sort of thing.

PRO's : No shelf life, won't attract moisture or promote corrosion (at least not as much as polyester filler ), can be obtained in Taiwan (unlike filler) , could probably be sanded (untested)

CONS : Won't do shallow scratches (at least unmodified), fairly pointless (like polyester filler).

"the bodge of all time"? Phooey.

I've done MUCH bigger bolder and bodgier bodges than that, (ferrocement box section, anybody?) AND got them through UK MOT's, but I no longer have to worry about UK MOT's.

This is obviously a non-structural, cosmetic "repair" technique, as is any use of body filler.

In this case it happens to be in a little hole in a sill, which MIGHT be a UK MOT failure, since sills are structural, though it is a very small hole.

It just happened to be a hole that was handy when I did it.

Used as suggested, say to fill a hole in a door bottom, there wouldn't be any possible structural implications.

So unless the UK MOT has got even more anal in my abscence, it'd be fine.

Reminds me of the 70`s bodges, but what was the oil for? it would have been more use for cooking or lubricating.

I did once try sunflower oil as an assembly lubricant.

BIG mistake, since it sets solid, and is a pretty strong adhesive.

This isn't too surprising, since it forms epoxides by oxidation, but I didn't know that then.

That cooking idea might just work though. Good to see someone thinking outside the box.
