Toyota Avensis - 2.0 diesel 1cd-ftv blue smoke when accelerating - VEC786
2.0 diesel 1cd-ftv blue smoke when accelerating, it is fine when normal driving only happens when i overtake.

any suggestions

It is using any oil ? How old is it ? What sort of mileage has it done ? When was it last serviced, and what grade of engine oil was used for the last service ?

Too many variables at present

year 2005, mileage 200,000, serviced every 10,000, always used 5w 30. ill get back to you about using oil as its my fathers car, i would say it uses some oil for now

If you get the smoke when accelerating after going down a hill it could be worn valve guides/seals, if it smokes all the time probably bore wear. At 200k you would expect some wear although most diesels don't smoke at this age unless they haven't had regular oil changes.

Maybe the turbo is on its way out, the seals inside could be beginning to fail letting a bit of oil through

yes I'm thinking turbo. as far as I know its the original. there is no blue smoke on start up. I have checked the spindle there is no excessive play, so most likely turbo seals. I can live with turbo going but piston ring failure means new engine. I am hoping to get 300k out this engine
