Hi,
Had this diagnosed as the fault by Nissan. Car is only worth £700 but I like it. Compressor is noisy and air con not working.
I can get compressors on ebay for £30-40. What is the likely labour charge from an independent?

I would estimate around 2 hrs at an Indy. The only issue you may have,is that will replacing the compressor fix the ac,or are there other problems lurking on the system?

Hi, thanks for reply. I had kwik fit do a re charge that never worked, they guessed and said perhaps the compressor. Then got an independent air con guy who thought the compressor was working. There was a pressure difference but not a great one he said so thought could be the condensor as it looks like it's quite bent from a bump at some point. He said it wasn't worth investigating further as the car had other more important issues.
I took it to nissan to dignose another fault that is now sorted and asked them to look at the air con too. They said definitely the compressor but 500-600 quid.
Just annoying finally knowing what is wrong and wanting it sorting.

No point in replacing the compressor if the condenser's damaged. That could mean a leak in the system. Did they put a leak detector in the system when they re-charged it and have you checked for leaks?

Seems to be no leaks. It never lost it's fluid and it didn't show up on a pressure test. Havn't had a dye test. I'll probably leave it to be honest, it's looking more expensive than I realised.

I ran a Tino for 5 years,a good reliable car. The only fault I had was a failed air con condensor. Cost me about £400 to have replaced and regassed.

Go to a refrigeration serice outlet onan industrial estate rather than a garage - hourly rate is less & their parts prices are less!
