hi ,my x type 2.0L diesel started to stall if i rev it over 3000 revs and then the glow plug would flash when i started it up again.i changed the diesel filter but made no difference ,Ive been told its injectors ,can i replace them with second hand ones or do they need to be re coded ,its done 150k but all ways run well before this problem, any advise would be good ,thanks ray.

You could fit s/hand injectors, but would they be any better than the ones you have now.?Yes,they are coded, but only for fine tuning. This will not cause the engine to not start. If you replace the injectors, either new or s/hand,make a note of the 16 digit code # printed on the side of each unit and record of which injector is fitted to which cylinder.

As a colleague once found out you can throw a lot of money at an injector faulton an X type, but if the wiring loom is failing you will see no improvement!

Check all the wiring carefully - it can fray over time leading to problems.

If the code stored is Fuel Rail Pressure it probably is one or more of the injectors.

You need to do a leakback test on them and find out.

If one or two are particularly worse than the others then you might get away with just replacing or refurbishing those rather than all four,.

The injectors are quite easy to remove on these - ideally you need a special 21mm socket with a "window" in it so you can hold the injector in place with a spanner when tightening but a deep 21mm socket will probably do the job.

thank you for your replies i have replace all 4 injector s/hand and its still the same then i checked the wiring ,i have a sealey code reader the code came up p0251 [fuel pump ] how can i check the fuel pressure ,would my code reader be able too tell me ,there is fuel at the injectors but im not sure if the pump might be weak.even easy start doesn't make it start it only runs on the easy start, any more ideas.thanks ray.

It could be the pump but more likely the injectors. Basically the fuel rail pressure is not getting to the desired level.

I'd test your new injectors before doing anything else - one seriously bad one can stop these starting. Do a leakback test with the car running at idle and check there isn't excess leak-off from any of the injectors.

Cheap used injectors are usually a waste of money on these as you have no idea what you are getting. They will also need coding but the car should start I would think.

You're better off getting your existing injectors refurbed IMO.

Either way the common rail isn't reaching enough pressure either because the fuel is going straight back into the tank due to worn injectors not holding the pressure or the pump not providing sufficient pressure.

The OP says it will only start and run on Easystart, it will therefore be difficult to do a leakback test, so probably best to take them to a diesel specialist for checking and a definitive answer.

i have scanned it on live data the fuel pressure is 5200 just cranking it over,is that good also could i clamp the return pipe off and see if it increases.i thought the egr was faulty so i have blank that off.

5200 what??
xtype estate 2004 2.0L diesel. - jaguar - raysheppard
live data FPR [KPa ] 5200 .thats what the scanner is showing ,my scanner is a sealey vs 864 .this is at cranking speed.,freeze frame FRP 9200 .can any one tell me if the pump could be faulty ,or do i just change it and hope thats the problem.i have searched google and people have changed injectors and fuel pumps and still had a problem, any advise ,thanks ray.

That figure is way too low.needs to be around 15,000 kpa before it will think about starting.Changing the pump on these is a mission. You need a more accurate analysis of the system before proceeding any further.

thank you for the reply , can i buy a second hand pump and fit that or will it need to be coded to the car, there are several units on eBay .thanks again for your help. ray

Common rail diesel pumps are not coded. You also need to remember that a Crd pump is actually a fluid transfer device. It cannot produce pressure on its own.
xtype estate 2004 2.0L diesel. - jaguar - raysheppard
can you tell me more about the crd pump ,can i just time it up and it will work or will it need too be primed,i have a plunger ball pump fitted in the fuel line after the diesel filter, that was too make it easier to change the fuel filter.
