Hi all I have a vine type weed that is taking over my garden and I wish to kill it permanently. I have my doubts abut the general stuff you can buy from the shops does anyone have a good suggestion?

Thanks in advance

Clinic Ace or Gullup or similar from the usual online auction site, ''professional weedkiller'' in a search will bring them all up.

Note, you must be a professional to actually use the stuff, it is very powerful.

Clinic ace, roundup, or anything similar will kill EVERYTHING it comes into contact with. So overspray can be a major issue. That type is called a pandemic killer.

Grazon Pro (previously called Grazon 90) is a systemic killer that will kill sophisticated plants, but not grass

Grazon shows very rapid effect - in the right weather conditions, a couple of hours. Clinic ace takes up to 2 weeks to show effect, so a lot of people assume it isn't working, as they don't see rapid effects.

Thanks. I'm not to bothered about other vegetation dieing off as I plan to dig up the garden as the last owner has let I over grow and I want to start with a blank canva's. Plus I will be laying artificial turf once I've levelled the ground.

In which case, Clinic Ace (or equivalent) is what you want applied. You may need to get a professional in to do it, as it is restricted purchase. I had to produce my CPH number for the smallholding for the last purchase, and in future I will have to produce my spraying certificate too. Vicious stuff.

Glyphosate is systemic weed killer so will kill the roots as well, retailed as roundup etc, buy concentrate online if large area to cover much cheaper, if spray runs off leaves you have used too much, so use sparingly, also ideally need no rain after for 24 hours. It will kill any green leaf vegetation. Safe with pets read the instructions for full info

The problem with glyphosphate weedkillers is that they only work on emergant weeds, they will not prevent weeds growing.
The best prduct for that got banned - sodium chlorate.
The only way I have found to prevent weed growth on gravel paths is plain old granular common salt spread by a lawn fertiliser spreader.
As long as there isn't too much rain to wash it away it works ok for a while.
It's also non-toxic to pets and children.

Nowadays, everything seems to need a COSHH approval for whatever use it's used.

Has Sodium chloride been approved as a weedkiller?

Point 1 your honour:-

I was using sodium chloride to stop my driveway freezing in winter,

Point 2 your honour-

Sodium chloride has been approved as a weedkiller for the central reservation of motorways and dual carriageways for many years.

I didn't think it was actually banned.

Sodium Chlorate has been adulterated for some years with a fire depressant, because pure Chlorate is an oxidising agent and makes an explosive mixture with suitable common flammable substances.

Sodium Chlorate – a non-selective weed killer - was banned across Europe in 2009.
