IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE CONDENSOR UNIT TO BE DAMAGED BY A FLYING STONE

BEEN TOLD BY AGARAGE THAT THE UNIT NEEDS REPLACING AS DAMAGED BY A STONE

Yes, is the answer. But this isn't likely to cause a problem if the stone hasn't punctured a gallery. If it has then the refridgerant will have escaped and the air conditioning won't work. You will need a new condenser and the system re-charged.

Possibly, but unlikely.the number of condensers I have seen that have genuinely been damaged by flying debris can be counted on one hand,and that's over a 30 year period.More likely to be a fail through corrosion.
