Vauxhall Astra J - Vauxhall Astra J Lack of Power - VauxGuruNot

Hi all,

I have a vauxhall astra J 2010. Its currently got a power issue. Basically, when the engine is warm (generally only notice then) the car seems to lack power when accelerating. Its like accelerating hard in fifth, but really your in third. I expect a lot more power which it normally gives me. Its temperamental so doesnt do this all the time.

Its the 1.6 litre petrol engine, engine code A16XER I think.

I have taken it into a VX dealership and conected it to their diagnostics but it doesnt show anything and the engine management light doesnt show at any point. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Maybe this will help. Seems to apply to this engine also.

Hi!

I had the same issue on ignition. A quick restart usually helped.

I've heard from a friend of mine that it's a 'known issue'. Hopefully soon they'll find a solution

I had this exact same issue with a 2010 plate in 2020. Once car was up to temp it would lose loads of power. Saying that the car didn't feel like a 116bhp motor when running normal.

Anyway I ended up with a code 68 on the dash and after months of the steering rack being intermittent it finally give up the ghost. I sent it to my mechanic who sent it to a specialist in Warrington (camco). These guys deal with ferrari Porche and the likes. I told them to diagnose it, then two weeks I had a call saying they was done.

The ECU was faulty, faulty steering module and a faulty rack. It cost me 950 quid and when I got the car back OMG it's a different car. More grunt and is now pulling like a 100+ bhp motor. Steering is lighter too and feels like a new car to drive.

Only thing is now it's just today blown its first bulbs in 2 years and I've replaced those but it now has a code 26 on the dash and the left indicator is flashing like there is a bulb blown but there's not. Hoping it's something like a dodgy relay.

Experiencing this very same problem with my wife's Astra J 1.6 Sports Tourer. The thing is unpleasant to drive after about 10 miles when warmed up. if you lay off the accelerator it jerks badly, juddery when engaging the clutch and lacks power under acceleration to the point of it being dangerous. The old Astra G 1.6 8v it replaced felt more sparky.

It's showing no codes, I have cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced the plugs. Dealership can't seem to fault it. Lots of people seem to have reported exactly the same problem, but there seems to be no definitive fix, this thread has had over 17,000 views. I realise it's no rocketship but no way does it feel like a 115hp car.

Any help much appreciated.
