1.9 LX 04 Plate - Peugeot Partner - MouldyJuls
Hi
My Peugeot Partner was struggling to start on first start up, turned over no problem but took a few tries til it caught, then starts up first time for the rest of the day and runs well.
Changed all 4 glow plugs, starts instantly and runs well, but when i drive loses power and black smoke, iv learnt black smoke is too much fuel, what have we done wrong?

Changing glow plugs shouldn't effect this did you take any intake pipes off to get to the glow plugs? a split or disconnected high pressure turbo pipe will cause this you will loose power and where you are not getting the air delivery required it will give signs for over fueling

Yes we did, we had to remove the manifold to get to the glow plugs and to do that we released the air intake and the egr pipe,
I had rush off to work so iv left the van at home in sick bay :(
Thanks for the advice il check the pipes tomorro maybe one got split.
Thank you

A lot of these came without turbos fitted,

but there is/are small diameter pipes running to the EGR,

Difficult to see as they are under/right of the EGR but check these,

and all electrical connectors that you may have unhooked.

Oh and that crazy clamp that connects the EGR pip to the EGR have been upgraded to a more resonable type from Peugeot,

I never put the original clamps back on.

No mine isnt a turbo its just a LX D
Im on niteshift so iv just got up so im heading out to it now, wer gonna take everything off again, there was a load of little pipes and electrical fittings, so wel chack everything and for burst pipes,
O yeh that crazy clamp, it came off ok was difficult to put back i think we put an o ring over it in the end, should we go to peugeot and get the proper clamp?
Thank you

Don't recall any "O" ring,

it's a flare and end fitting,

And I usually just get a new clamp from Peugeot,

though I have reused them in the past,

I find a pair of side snips the best way to close the clamp to clip it over the notch

I have never seen an o ring in an egr valve before because of the temperatures that run through it plus the metal clamp is reusable you can buy the special pliers for it quite cheap

Granted but the uprated clamps from Peugeot are a dream to use compared to the original clips.

something like a £1.80 if I recall and well worth it.

Glow plugs are not needed on modern Peugeot diesels unless its doing a DPF regeneration or its seriously cold (double negative figure temperatures). Neither of which apply to your Partner.
